Shopify ERP Integration

An ERP integration is the highest-stakes connection your store has, because the ERP owns inventory and finance. Get it right and orders stop being retyped, stock stops overselling, and finance stops reconciling by hand. Start from the system you already run.

how to choose

Which path fits your situation

  • Your ERP runs in the cloud

This is the straightforward case, and the work is mostly agreeing what each field means on both sides before anything moves. Expect a shorter project and a lower number.

  • Your ERP runs on your own servers

Entirely doable, and the thing that decides the timeline is your network rather than the store. We bring your IT people in during week one instead of week six, because that is where these projects slip.

  • Your ERP has been customised heavily over the years

The customisation is usually the project. We look at what has been changed and tell you which parts are worth carrying across and which have quietly stopped earning their keep.

  • You only need the books to balance, not a full ERP

Then say so and we will scope it that way. Getting orders and payouts into your accounting properly is a much smaller job than a full ERP integration, and we would rather sell you the smaller one.

questions

Questions buyers actually ask

Which ERP integrates best with Shopify?

Business Central has the strongest first-party story because Microsoft ships and maintains a free Shopify connector. NetSuite has the most mature third-party middleware. Acumatica has a clean modern REST API. SYSPRO and older SAP need more custom work because they are typically on-premise. Best in practice means whichever ERP you already run, integrated properly.

How long does an ERP integration take?

Four to fourteen weeks depending on the system and complexity, and most of that is not coding. Field mapping, cleaning existing item data, and UAT dominate. The single biggest schedule risk is dirty source data in the ERP, which is why discovery comes before any build.

Can we keep the ERP as the system of record?

Yes, and you should. The ERP owns inventory, pricing, and finance while Shopify owns the storefront and customer experience. We never write to your general ledger directly: orders create sales orders and your existing posting rules handle the accounting, so finance keeps one auditable path.

What happens when the ERP goes down?

Shopify keeps selling. Every event queues durably and replays in order once the ERP responds again, which matters most at month-end when many ERPs lock for period close. Any integration without a durable queue will silently drop orders during that window.

Do we need middleware or can we integrate directly?

You need something holding queue state, retries, and idempotency, whether that is a licensed platform or a service in your own cloud. Direct point-to-point integrations fail because they have nowhere to put an event when the other side is unavailable. The choice is which middleware, not whether.
