What Shopify development costs, and how we quote it
eSolve does not sell packages. Every project is quoted custom against a written scope, because the same store size can be a small build or a large one depending on what sits underneath it. This page is the honest version of a price list: what moves the number, what brings it down, and how the quote gets fixed in writing.
What drives the cost up
Systems connected
Each ERP, CRM, 3PL, or POS connection adds field mapping, failure handling, and testing. Direction matters too: bidirectional sync is materially more work than one-way order push.
How we handle integrationsB2B requirements
Company accounts, customer-specific price lists, net payment terms, and rep ordering flows are their own implementation, not a checkbox on a DTC build.
Catalog complexity
Ten thousand SKUs with variants, units of measure, and multi-location inventory behave nothing like a fifty-product store. Data cleanliness on the way in decides a surprising share of the effort.
Checkout customization
Checkout UI extensions, Shopify Functions for discount and shipping logic, and post-purchase flows are engineering work with real failure modes around taxes and payments.
Migration history
Replatforming carries URL mapping, redirect integrity, and historical data decisions. The more platforms in the past, the more archaeology in the quote.
How we run migrationsMulti-language and multi-market
Bilingual catalogs, market-specific payment methods, and tax regimes each add scope. Doing them natively avoids app subscriptions but takes deliberate build work.
How we set up new marketsWhat brings it down
- Using native Shopify capabilities instead of app stacks wherever the platform already does the job
- Clean product and customer data before the build starts
- Phasing scope: launch the revenue-critical path first, add the rest once it earns its place
- Keeping decision-makers close during the build so answers arrive in hours, not weeks
How quoting works
01
Scoping call
Thirty minutes. What you sell, what systems you run, what is broken or missing, and what the business needs the project to earn. We will tell you on this call if the project is not worth doing.
02
Free assessment
We look at the store, the stack, and the data before quoting. For integration work this produces a system map: what objects move, in which directions, at what frequency.
03
Fixed-scope quote in writing
A written scope with deliverables, timeline, and a fixed number. Not an estimate that grows, not open-ended hourly billing. If scope changes mid-project, the change is priced in writing before work continues.
70% reduction in claims handling time on a recent build, quoted and delivered exactly this way.

How much does Shopify development cost?
It depends on the factors that actually drive effort: how many systems connect and in which directions, whether B2B capabilities are needed, catalog size and data quality, checkout customization, and migration history. Two stores with the same revenue can be a small project and a large one. That is why we quote against a written scope after a free assessment instead of publishing package prices that would be wrong in both directions.
What does a Shopify expert cost?
Rates vary by an order of magnitude, and the number itself tells you very little. Offshore freelance work advertises at the low end, senior specialists and agencies sit well above it, and the real cost difference shows up later in rework, not in the invoice. What is worth comparing is who carries the risk: whether the scope is written down, whether the quote is fixed or hourly, and who is accountable when an integration breaks after launch. We quote fixed scopes in writing after a free assessment, so the number you approve is the number you pay.
How much does an ecommerce website cost overall?
The build is only one line. A realistic total includes the platform subscription, payment processing, apps you keep, and the growth work that makes the store earn. The most reliable way to keep total cost down is reducing app count by using native platform features, and scoping the build around the revenue-critical path first. We map all of it before quoting so the number you approve is the number you pay.
Why does eSolve not publish prices?
Because every project is custom-quoted to scope, and published figures would be wrong in both directions: high enough to scare off a small clean project, low enough to mislead a complex one. The honest version of a public price list is what this page gives you instead, which is exactly what moves the number and how the quote gets fixed in writing.
How do you keep a fixed-scope quote from ballooning?
The scope document is specific about deliverables and exclusions before work starts, which is what makes a fixed number possible. When something genuinely new appears mid-project, it gets priced and approved in writing before we build it. We would rather tell you the number is higher during scoping than let you find out at invoice.
