Shopify Theme Detector

Paste any Shopify store’s address to see the theme it runs, the theme it was built on, its version and whether it came from the Shopify Theme Store.

Paste any page from the store. We read that public page and don’t keep a record of which stores you check.

The theme, the theme it was built on, its version, and whether it came from the Shopify Theme Store will show here.

How the detector works

Shopify prints a small block of theme details into every Online Store page. The detector fetches the page you enter, reads that block, and checks the Theme Store when the theme came from there. It doesn’t log in, run scripts or read anything that isn’t already public.

Shopify theme detector FAQs

How do I find out what Shopify theme a store uses?
Paste the store’s address above. Every Shopify store that uses an Online Store theme includes the theme’s details in its pages: the name in the merchant’s admin, the theme it was built on, its version and, if it came from the Theme Store, its Theme Store ID. The detector reads those details from the public page.
Why does the theme name look odd?
Merchants rename their theme copies in the Shopify admin, so the name can read like “Holiday launch, do not delete”. The “built on” line shows the theme underneath, such as Dawn, which is usually what you are looking for.
What does “custom or uploaded theme” mean?
The theme wasn’t installed from the Shopify Theme Store. It might be built from scratch by an agency, or a Theme Store theme that was uploaded as a file or customised heavily enough to become its own. The “built on” name often still tells you where it started.
Why can’t it find a theme?
Some Shopify stores don’t use an Online Store theme at all. They run a custom storefront, often built with Hydrogen, so there is no theme to read. Some stores also turn away automated visits; in that case try another page from the store.
Can it tell which apps a store uses?
Not yet. It reads the theme only. Apps load in many different ways, so an accurate app check needs more than one page, and we would rather show nothing than guess.
Is this Shopify theme detector free?
Yes. There is no sign-up. We fetch the public page you enter and don’t keep a record of which stores you check; a result is held in memory for up to 30 minutes so a repeat check is quick.
