Traffic compounds while conversion rate and AOV hold steady. Seasonality and promotions are not modelled, so treat this as a planning baseline. Sessions and orders are rounded in the table; revenue uses the exact figures.
How the forecast works
Monthly revenue = Sessions × Conversion rate × AOV
Next month's sessions = This month's sessions × (1 + Monthly growth)
Total = Sum of every month's revenue
To test what a better conversion rate or order value is worth without a timeline, use the ecommerce revenue calculator. To check that the ad spend behind the forecast pays for itself, use the ROAS calculator.
Ecommerce sales forecast FAQs
- How do you forecast ecommerce sales?
- Start from the revenue formula every store runs on: sessions × conversion rate × average order value. Then apply a growth assumption, usually month-over-month traffic growth while conversion rate and order value stay steady, and add up the months in your forecast. Better forecasts then layer in seasonality, promotions and channel mix. This calculator gives you the clean baseline to start from.
- How do you calculate projected sales?
- Projected sales for a month = expected sessions × conversion rate × average order value. With 40,000 sessions, a 2% conversion rate and a $72 average order, that is 800 orders and $57,600. For later months, grow the sessions by your monthly growth rate and repeat. The calculator does this for every month and shows the running total.
- What is a sales forecast calculator?
- A sales forecast (or sales projection) calculator estimates future revenue from numbers you know or can estimate. For an online store that means traffic, conversion rate, average order value and a growth rate. The result is a month-by-month schedule and a total you can plan stock, hiring and ad budgets around.
- What monthly growth rate should I use?
- Use your own history first: compare traffic for the same months last year and work out the average monthly change. Remember that growth compounds, so 3% a month is about 43% over a year and roughly doubles traffic in two years. If a rate looks too high for your category, run a lower one beside it and plan around the range, not a single number. Negative rates model a decline.
- How accurate is an ecommerce sales forecast?
- Treat it as a planning range, not a promise. Steady compound growth leaves out stockouts, seasonality and shifts between channels. Run a cautious case with lower conversion or flatter growth next to your expected case, then refine with last year's month-by-month figures once you have them.
- Should I forecast revenue or orders?
- Both. Orders drive fulfilment and stock, and revenue drives cash and ad budgets. This calculator works out orders from sessions × conversion rate, then multiplies by average order value for revenue. If order values swing a lot, for example with wholesale or big-ticket items, forecast those product groups separately and add them up.
- Is this ecommerce sales forecast calculator free?
- Yes. It runs in your browser with no sign-up and does not store your numbers. The monthly table can be selected and pasted straight into a spreadsheet.
