Lightspeed to Shopify migration services
We move retailers off Lightspeed onto Shopify and Shopify POS, so the store, the registers, and the inventory finally live in one system instead of two synced ones.

Why brands move from Lightspeed to Shopify.
Online is a second system bolted to the register
Lightspeed is a point of sale first. The ecommerce side runs as a separate product kept in sync, so pricing rules, promotions, and inventory live twice and disagree at the worst moments.
Shopify and Shopify POS are one catalog, one inventory pool, and one customer record across store and web.
The online store hit its ceiling
Theme choice, app ecosystem, and checkout flexibility on Lightspeed eCom are a fraction of what the online business now needs. The register is fine; the website is the constraint.
Shopify's theme and app ecosystem, plus a checkout that actually converts, without giving up in-store retail.
Feeds and channels need data Lightspeed does not carry
Google Shopping, marketplaces, and AI shopping surfaces run on structured product data. Maintaining feeds off a POS catalog means manual exports and hand-typed attributes forever.
Shopify's native channel integrations and feed apps publish from one catalog, so listings stop being a side job.
What we migrate.
Eight data sets move from Lightspeed to Shopify, each handled and validated.
Products and variants
Catalog exports from Lightspeed with SKUs validated, because Lightspeed itself warns CSV exports can alter SKUs with leading zeros. We export the format that preserves them and verify counts.
Inventory by location
Stock levels per outlet export from Lightspeed and map to Shopify POS locations, so counts stay honest at every register.
Customers
Customer records with contact details and marketing consent move over, ready for POS lookup and online accounts.
Gift cards
Lightspeed exports gift card codes and balances. We re-issue them in Shopify so every outstanding card keeps working at the register and online.
Store credit and loyalty
Store credit balances are not in Lightspeed's standard export and must be requested from Lightspeed before cancellation. We handle that request early, then rebuild balances in Shopify.
Sales history
Historical orders import to Shopify with Matrixify-class tooling so reporting and customer lifetime value survive, since Shopify has no native order-history import.
SEO metadata and 301 redirects
Lightspeed eCom URLs map to Shopify equivalents with a full 301 redirect plan, so rankings carry over.
Registers and hardware
Shopify POS is configured per location with taxes, staff, and receipts, and the switch happens between trading days.
Our Lightspeed to Shopify migration process.
Five steps, each with a named deliverable, run over 4 to 10 weeks.
- Step 1
Audit
We inventory the Lightspeed setup: series, locations, catalog size, gift card and credit liabilities, and what the online store does that the POS does not know about.
Deliverable: migration audit and data mapping doc
- Step 2
Plan
We sequence the store and register cutovers, place the store-credit export request with Lightspeed, and define the redirect map. You approve before build.
Deliverable: scope, cutover plan, and 301 redirect map
- Step 3
Build
The Shopify storefront is built while Lightspeed keeps trading. POS locations, taxes, and hardware are configured against a staging catalog.
Deliverable: staging store and configured POS
- Step 4
Migrate
Products, customers, inventory by location, gift cards, and history move with exports validated against Lightspeed counts, SKUs checked for export mangling.
Deliverable: validated data import
- Step 5
Launch
Web cutover first or registers first, your call, each between trading days. Redirects go live and both channels are monitored from day one.
Deliverable: go-live across web and registers

Tooling and partners.
For Lightspeed we export via the formats Lightspeed itself recommends for SKU fidelity, use Matrixify for order history and bulk imports, and rebuild the storefront on Dawn or Horizon. Gift card balances re-issue through Shopify's import tooling, and store credit is requested from Lightspeed early because it is not in the standard export. Shopify POS replaces the registers location by location.
This migration pairs with our Shopify development, Shopify Plus, Shopify and HubSpot integration, and managed Shopify support.

Frequently asked questions.
How long does a Lightspeed to Shopify migration take?
A Lightspeed to Shopify migration takes 4 to 10 weeks depending on catalog size, number of locations, and whether registers move at the same time as the website. A single-location retailer with a clean catalog sits at the short end. We sequence web and POS cutovers separately so the store never stops trading. Book an assessment and we will return a fixed timeline for your setup.
Can I migrate from Lightspeed to Shopify without losing sales history?
Yes, with the right tooling. Shopify has no built-in order-history import, so history moves with tools like Matrixify rather than a native transfer. We export sales from Lightspeed, transform them, and import them against your migrated customers so lifetime value and reporting survive. Counts are validated against Lightspeed before sign-off, and the history arrives attached to the right people.
Do gift cards and store credit transfer from Lightspeed to Shopify?
Gift cards yes, with work: Lightspeed exports codes and balances, and we re-issue them in Shopify so outstanding cards keep working. Store credit is the trap: it is not included in Lightspeed's standard customer export and has to be requested from Lightspeed directly. We place that request at the start of the project, because discovering it after the account is closed means those balances are gone.
Will my SKUs survive the export from Lightspeed?
Only if the export is done carefully, and this catches people. Lightspeed's own documentation warns that CSV exports can alter SKUs, dropping leading zeros and mangling long codes. We use the export format Lightspeed recommends for fidelity and validate SKUs against the source before anything imports, because a silently changed SKU breaks barcodes, feeds, and your 3PL at once.
Should I migrate from Lightspeed or just integrate it with Shopify?
Lightspeed offers a Shopify integration that syncs its POS with a Shopify online store, and for some retailers that is genuinely enough. It is still two systems to keep agreeing with each other. Migration is the right call when the sync itself has become the problem, or when you want one catalog, one inventory pool, and one customer record. We will tell you honestly which side of that line you are on.
Does it matter whether I am on Lightspeed X-Series or R-Series?
For the outcome, no; for the export plan, yes. The two series export differently and their gift card and API access differ, with some data paths gated by Lightspeed plan. We identify your series in the audit and build the extraction plan around what your account can actually produce. You do not need to know your series before talking to us.
Can I keep selling in-store during the migration?
Yes. Lightspeed keeps running until the moment Shopify POS takes over, and the register switch happens between trading days, location by location for multi-store retailers. The website cutover is a DNS switch with the same protection. No trading day is lost on either channel, and Lightspeed stays available as a fallback until the new registers are proven.
Do product reviews transfer from Lightspeed?
No. Reviews cannot be migrated from Lightspeed to Shopify directly. If your reviews live in a third-party app, we migrate them through that app's own export into a Shopify review app. If they live in Lightspeed itself, we export what is available and re-import through a review platform. We audit where reviews actually live before promising anything.
