Case study

Bookings and gift cards, sold like products

SmartFix Tech operates Unplugged Games Café and No Escape Rooms from 579 King Street in Fredericton. Both sell online. Neither was being sold like an ecommerce product. The café is drop-in, low ticket, and decided on Google Maps in minutes. The escape rooms are prepaid group slots decided over days. eSolve treated both as commerce: conversion tracking before any spend, a booking funnel instrumented as checkout, gift cards surfaced as a product, and a $5/day local test billed to the client's own Google Ads account.

The Challenge

One address, two buying behaviours. Unplugged is impulse walk-in traffic that lives or dies on the map. No Escape Rooms is a prepaid group booking with a cart, a price, and an abandonment rate that nobody was measuring. Treating both as enquiries hid the checkout problem on one side and the discoverability problem on the other.

Four specific gaps: the booking flow was not treated as a checkout, so drop-off was a single unexplained gap. Calls, forms, and completed bookings were uninstrumented, so a sale could not be attributed to café or escape room. Gift cards, a high-margin product with zero fulfilment cost, were buried in the navigation. Reviews had no systematic ask.

The Solution

Month 1 treated it like a store. Month 2 bought visibility only after the transactions were measurable. Paid media stayed at $5/day, geofenced to a 15 to 40 km Fredericton and Oromocto radius, because a test budget has no room for unmeasured clicks.

Tracking before spend

Completed bookings, gift card purchases, phone calls, and form fills were instrumented as distinct conversion events. The booking funnel was wired as an ecommerce checkout so drop-off could be seen step by step. Brand identification in the lead and booking flow meant every transaction belonged to café or escape room rather than an average of both. Retargeting and lookalike audiences were configured through GA4 and the Meta Pixel before any budget moved.

Gift cards as a product

Gift cards were surfaced in navigation and on both brand pages. Zero fulfilment cost, immediate revenue, and a gifting use case the business already had. They had been treated as a buried page instead of inventory.

Local visibility at a test budget

Local campaigns ran across Google, Meta, and Microsoft at $5/day, billed to the client's own account, month to month, with full client ownership of accounts and data. Keywords followed board games, escape rooms, and event searches. Listings were synced or created on Google, Bing, and TripAdvisor. TripAdvisor matters here because escape rooms sit in an activity category people browse with booking intent. Google Business Profile was treated as ranking work: categories, hours, photos, and a review ask that staff could actually run.

The Results

The booking checkout became a measured funnel, gift cards became a product, and the two brands stopped sharing one averaged report. $5/day is a controlled test, not a scale budget. Most of the commercial movement on an engagement like this comes from checkout, gift cards, the profile, listings, and reviews, not from the paid clicks. Wix still constrains technical SEO, tracking, and checkout control. Walk-in revenue stays inferred from direction requests, calls, and bookings rather than measured at the door. Three months cannot separate campaign effect from indoor-activity seasonality. The honest next work is a corporate and group booking page, reminder and review automation, and a platform review only if online is now a large enough share of revenue to justify it.
