Case study
Found without spending a dollar on ads
The Atlantic Canada Box sold a genuinely regional product with almost no way for a stranger to discover it. Searches like atlantic canada gift box or nova scotia gift basket delivery were returning competitors and marketplaces. The store's own product pages were effectively invisible. A 90-day Foundation engagement with The Maritime Box as the sister brand, five focus hours a month, rebuilt titles for searchers instead of the warehouse, stood up shopping feeds that did not exist, and wrote answer-shaped content so assistants had something to cite. Paid advertising was not in scope.
The Challenge
Product pages were written for the warehouse, not the searcher. Titles were internal SKU language. Descriptions were feature lists. URLs carried no keyword signal.
No shopping feed existed at all. Google, Microsoft, and Meta had no catalog for this store, so products could not appear in shopping placements even as free listings. Nothing was structured for AI answers. When someone asked an assistant for a Maritime gift box recommendation, there was no content shaped in a way an answer engine could lift or cite.

The Solution
Discoverability came from three sources that behave differently: conventional search, AI answer engines, and free shopping listings. At Domain Rating 3.7 this store cannot win competitive head-on rankings, which is why the strategy leans on feeds and citation rather than a keyword push alone. The Ahrefs figure is real and it is the justification for the approach.

Titles in the language buyers type
Product titles, descriptions, and URLs were rewritten around high-intent keywords across the active catalog. The framing shift mattered more than the keyword research. Titles moved from internal product language to occasion and region first: gift box for a housewarming, Atlantic Canada gift basket shipped nationally. This store leads on regional and national-shipping terms. The sister brand leads on personalization and occasion, so the two catalogs stop competing for the same cluster.
Content shaped for AI answers
FAQ and answer-format content was added so the store could be cited inside AI-generated answers rather than only ranked as a link. An answer engine wants a clean, attributable, definitive answer, not a page that ranks well. Content was written to be liftable: direct answers first, specifics second.
A shopping feed that did not exist
Product feeds were built for Google, Microsoft, and Meta. Rejections were traced to missing attributes and fixed or excluded deliberately. Because this tier carries no ad budget, every resulting shopping click is a free listing. A correctly structured feed puts products into shopping surfaces at no media cost. Feed management was trained inside the sessions, because a feed that silently stops updating quietly removes an entire channel.
A storefront that can hold the traffic
The Atlantic Canada Box had been sharing a Shopify theme, navigation, and collection structure with its sister brand. It was rebuilt as its own brand: homepage, navigation, mobile layout, and collection pages that are actually browsable. Gift note and photo upload live in the cart and order experience, because native checkout-page changes require Shopify Plus. Visibility without a storefront that converts is wasted. The redesign was part of the SEO result.
The Results
The store now has searcher-language product pages, answer-shaped content, and shopping feeds that did not exist before. Domain Rating at the start of this write-up was 3.7 on theatlanticcanadabox.com, verified in Ahrefs, which independently supports the discoverability thesis: this is not a domain that wins by outranking incumbents on blue links alone. Impression, click, ranking, and citation figures from the internal draft stay unpublished until Search Console, GA4, and Merchant Center replace them. AEO citation counts are directional even when they are real. Feed approval is ongoing work, not a finished catalog. Paid ads, CRM sync, and directory listings sit on a later tier.
